The Clock is Ticking: Windows 10 End-of-Support and the Move to Amazon WorkSpaces with Windows 11

On October 14, 2025, Microsoft Windows 10 reaches end-of-support (EOS), after which extended support fees for the operating system increases.

We are launching an initiative to:

1. Target existing Amazon WorkSpaces customers running Windows 10 to encourage them to migrate to Windows 11.
2. Encourage organizations running Windows 10 on aging end-user devices to run Windows 11 on WorkSpaces.
3. Target organizations running on-premises VDI to migrate to Amazon WorkSpaces running Windows 11.

Why Amazon WorkSpaces for Windows 11?

Amazon WorkSpaces is a great place to run Windows 11—offering a wide range of flexible, highly secure, and scalable virtual desktop options to support a variety of use cases and budgets.

WorkSpaces helps customers minimize expenses by allowing them to leverage their existing Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise licenses and Windows 11 OS licenses.

Existing WorkSpaces customers running Windows 10 bring-your-own-license can migrate to Windows 11 bring-your-own-license on their terms by using the WorkSpaces migration API or by temporarily deploying additional infrastructure during the migration period to maximize control over the migration process. Migrating customers can leverage WorkSpaces flexible instance sizes to optimize performance of Windows 11.

Options for Aging Hardware

Organizations with aging end-user devices can take advantage of Windows 11 without purchasing expensive new laptops. These organizations can:

1. Refresh old hardware with affordable Amazon WorkSpaces Thin Clients (starting at $195/device).
2. Install WorkSpaces-supported 35 client operating systems (like ChromeOS Flex, IGEL OS, or NComputing) and run Windows 11 on WorkSpaces.
3. Refresh old hardware with low-cost laptops running Windows 11 locally and access WorkSpaces instances running Windows 11 on-demand.
